Interview with the Weekend Train Cleaner
A student interview reveals the small habits behind a clean train.
Interviewer: Thank you for talking with me today. What time does your work usually begin?
Cleaner: On weekends, I start at six in the morning. The first train is already busy, so we have to move quickly.
Interviewer: What is the hardest part of the job?
Cleaner: The hardest part is noticing small things. A clean train is not only about the floor. We check seats, windows, handrails, and the space under bags.
Interviewer: Do passengers ever thank you?
Cleaner: Sometimes. One child once said, "The train smells like morning." I still remember that.
Interviewer: What do you want students to know?
Cleaner: Small habits matter. If one person takes their trash, the next person feels more comfortable. A clean place is made by many quiet choices.
Interviewer: That is a nice way to think about public spaces.
Cleaner: Yes. We clean the train, but passengers help keep it clean.
