Town Fountain Learns to Clap
A town fountain becomes popular after its water begins to clap for visitors.
A small fountain in Harumi Square has become popular this week.
The fountain usually sends water straight up. However, on Tuesday, the water moved in two large arcs. The arcs came together like clapping hands.
People stopped to watch. Some children bowed, and the fountain clapped again.
A city worker said the fountain was not built to do this.
“It may be a problem with the water pressure,” he said. “But it is a very polite problem.”
Local shops are happy because more people are visiting the square. A coffee shop near the fountain sold twice as many iced drinks as usual.
There is one rule. Visitors should not make the fountain clap too many times. The city says the fountain also needs breaks.
The city will check the machine next week.
Until then, many people are visiting the square to receive applause from water.
