Town Opens Reverse Lost-and-Found Desk
Residents can bring things they want someone else to lose.
A small town has opened a new service called the Reverse Lost-and-Found Desk.
At a normal lost-and-found desk, people come to get back things they lost. At this new desk, people bring things they want to disappear from their homes.
On the first day, residents brought old umbrellas, mystery cables, plastic bags full of plastic bags, and one exercise bike that had not moved since 2018.
"We are not throwing things away," a town worker said. "We are helping them find a new person to bother."
The most popular item was a box of small screws. No one knew what they were for, but everyone felt they might be important.
One student brought a workbook from elementary school. He said it was still making him feel guilty.
The town says all items must be safe, clean, and legal. Feelings of regret are accepted, but batteries are not.
By evening, the desk was full. The town is now planning a second desk for things people found while cleaning the first desk.
